Andratx is one of the best known resorts of Mallorca. Situated in the southwest area of the island, it occupies the last rocks of the "Serra de Tramuntana". The municipality has an extension of 82.55 square kilometres, distributed around 5 town centres: Andratx, Port d'Andratx, S'Arraco, Sant Elm and Camp de Mar.

A minute of History:
The village of Andratx is located in the southwest of Mallorca. Founded in the 17th century, it features a remarkable weir church which was a stronghold against pirates and invaders in the past. The village transmits an unusual historical atmosphere.

Location:
From Palma Airport follow road signs to Andratx, a journey of approximately 35 to 45 minutes. Approaching Andratx town, you will drive down a hill, towards the bottom of which you will pass a petrol Station on your left. A few yards ahead, you will approach a left turn road junction, sign posted Port d'Andratx. Turn left and after 4 or 5 kilometres, you will arrive at Port d'Andratx, entering a one way system as you turn right. Keep to the right-hand side of the road, as the road off to the left takes you into the town.

General Information:
The scenery is mainly mountainous, scattered with pretty coves and the beautiful beaches in Camp de Mar and Sant Elm. The contrast between the mountain and the sea, with the lovely wide valleys of Andratx and S'Arraco, make up the particular varied countryside that attracts visitors throughout the year. Only 25 kilometres from Palma, Andratx is an ideal place for relaxing with its many residential areas and hotels. Port d'Andratx, is visited year after year by numerous famous people and prestigious artists.

Where to go:
Only 25 Kilometres from Palma, it is a great place for day tours too. Hang around in the harbour area, or take a walk in the surrounding hills. The lack of sandy beaches has protected this area from becoming another development for mass tourism.

Events:
Markets: Every Wednesday there is a market where you can buy fruits, vegetables, souvenirs, clothes, etc (except bank holidays). Fairs: The first Sunday of May the "Fira Agricola i Ramadera" (farming and agriculture fair) takes place. Local festivities: 29th June: Sant Pere (Andratx), 16th July: Verge del Carme (Port d'Andratx), August: Festa di Moros y Cristianos (Sant Elm), 28th August: Sant Agusti (S'Arraco), 8th September: Verge de la Trapa (S'Arraco).

Alternative Activities:
Near to Puerto d'Andratx are the beaches of Camp de Mar and that of San Telm, which is sheltered by Dragonera island. Andratx is particularly enjoyable because it is very exclusive and relatively unknown to the package holiday market.

Comments:
Because of the landscape, the climate, the peace and the improvement in the communications of the area, Andratx has become one of the most attractive places for foreigners seeking a place to base their second residence, to have wonderful holidays or even to do some business.

Port d´Andratx is a natural port at the west tip of Mallorca and it has been used by navigators since old times. It has gone from a small fishermen village to a first-class touristic spot, though the fishing field is still present, fact that favours fresh fish offer by the restaurants in the area. Now the harbour is mostly taken by sailing boats and luxurious yatches.

Port d´Andratx´s main charm is the landscape of the Tramuntana mountains and coves in the area, which attract many tourists to spend their holidays in one of the hotels, villas or holiday houses -an important accommodation offer for a rather exclusive residential tourism-. In fact, most of Port d´Andratx´s inhabitants are from abroad, mainly from other european countries. The presence of defence towers like Sant Carles in La Mola, or 9, Rodríguez Acosta St -being now houses- testify to the evidence of ancient pirates´ menace, a fearsome danger along Mallorcan coast.

Cala Fonoll lies between imposing cliff walls. There is a vast nine-floor building at the bottom end of the beach and on the other side there are some villas. The shore and the seabed of this beach, which is 55 m long and 15 m wide, are covered with grey pebbles. To get here, take the Avinguda Gabriel Roca in Port d´Andratx, and from there follow the road of Carrer Cala Fonoll, which will take you to the beach. To get down to the shore, you will have to walk down a steep ramp carved into the talus.

Ses Bassetes is a small beach - 30 m long by 15 m wide - which is located between the promenade and the pier at Port d´Andratx. It is the perfect place to jump in the water and then go for a walk.

Cala Marmassen is a small beach - 20 m long by 4 m wide - with a rocky shore and seabed, making it a very attractive spot for snorkelling. To get here from Port d´Andratx, the street of Carrer Almirall Riera Alemany will take you to the residential area of Cap de sa Mola, and the beach is just behind this. You will have to walk the last stretch.

Cala Llamp is a rocky area which is a spot from which to get into the sea rather than a beach; it is 35 m long and 5 m wide and many apartments and villas have been built here. To get here, from Port d´Andratx there is a road that leads to Cala Llamp. Part of the route is the same as that for Cala Marmassen.
